Just got news over at FudZilla regarding some specifications over the upcoming Nvidia 28nm Kepler GK104 GPU and all I have to say is that it’s pretty damn exciting!
The GK104, possibly named the GeForce GTX 660 or 660 Ti will most likely succeed the current GeForce GTX 560/560 Ti and, according to sources close to FudZilla as well as analyst predictions, it is expected to do so in a big way. FudZilla’s sources are claiming that Nvidia’s new GK104 will be expected to have a 256 bit memory interface, 2GB of onboard memory and a 225W TDP. While that doesn’t sound THAT impressive considering AMD’s HD 7970 currently packs a 384 bit memory interface and 3GB of GDDR5, the 28nm Nvidia GK104 Kepler GPU is expected to have as many as 768 CUDA cores which should give it “well above 2 teraflops” of raw performance. This is approximately 50% more compute power than the current flagship GTX 580 which until the release of AMD’s HD 7970 was the fastest single GPU on the planet. Keep in mind the GK104 is only expected to be a mid range Kepler GPU with the GK110 (expected in April), GK107 and GK108 variants in the works as well.
Despite AMD’s earlier release of their HD 7970, Nvidia is still remaining quiet regarding their upcoming 28nm GPUs and are still planning a hard launch only. More information should be surfacing in the coming days so we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for this one.
