For those of you planning on purchasing a new laptop anytime soon, you might want to hold off until April for the new Ivy Bridge processors coming out soon, which promises similar performance to the current second generation Sandy Bridge processors at much lower TDP (Thermal Design Power). While the specific date still isn’t final, according to FudZilla, Intel’s new Ivy Bridge mobile and desktop processors should be launched in week 14, which will correlate to around April 1st to April 7th.
On the desktop side of things, Intel is planning a launch of only their quad core Ivy Bridge line of CPUs on week 14, which means only the Intel Core i7-3770K, i7-3770, i7-3770S, i7-3770T, i5- 3570K, i5-3550, i5-3550S, i5-3570T, i5-3450 and i5-3450S. Obviously, the SKUs we’re most interested is the i7-3770K and the i5 3570K. Both are unlocked processors and while they are expected to perform about the same as the i7 2600K or the i5 2500K, they are expected to do so with a lower TDP. Additionally, with any luck, these processors may be overclocking beasts similar to the i7 2700K.
The previously mentioned CPUs will also launch in conjunction with a new line of Panther Point chipsets: Z77, Z75, H77 and B75 – some of which have previously been shown off by Intel partners at CES 2012. For those of you interested in Ivy Bridge dual core CPUs (i3 2100 replacement), those are expected to be released a month later.
