If you’re planning to purchase a new Radeon HD6000 series graphics card this week or next week, STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING IMMEDIATELY!
According to VR-Zone, AMD is planning to end the 2011 year with the final bang by introducing their next generation Radeon HD 7970 next Thursday, December 22, 2011. This may be due to the recent news that the company’s next generation 28nm graphics chips were already shipping from TSMC as confirmed by AMD CEO, Rory Read.
This launch is expected to be a very limited launch (probably press and VIP only) but will give us the final details on the new graphics card. The real launch with full availability to the general public is expected to happen on January 9th, 2012 where the HD7950 is expected to launch as well.
Another interesting bit of information is that the Radeon HD 7950 is expected to be released as a custom part, which means that 3rd party manufacturers (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, XFX, etc) will be blessing the gpu with their own proprietary magic. I wouldn’t be surprised if every 3rd party manufacturer had a custom HD7950 in their CES booths this coming January. HD7950 Twin Frozr IV anyone?
As far as the HD7950 launch is concerned, it’s still unconfirmed at this point however, December 22, 2011 and January 9, 2012 seem to be the two major dates so if not December 22nd, then January 9th.
I’m excited! Are you? Comment below!
