Microsoft’s latest iteration of their Surface tablet PC is officially hitting retail shelves.

The Microsoft Surface 3 offers a more affordable alternative to the popular Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet PC. The base configuration for the Surface 3 costs just $499.99 and comes with a 10.8″ 1080p display, Intel Atom Atom x7-Z8700, 2GB RAM, and 64 GB of storage. The specs can be bumped up to 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage for an extra $100. The Surface 3 largely uses the same design as the Surface Pro 3, except it ditches the proprietary charging port in favor of a micro-USB port for better compatibility.

Compared to the Surface Pro 3’s starting price of $799, the Surface 3 seems like a pretty sweet deal, but the catch is that it doesn’t come with any accessories. Whereas the Surface Pro 3 comes with at least the stylus, the cost of Surface 3 only entails the tablet PC itself. However, for a limited of time, the Surface 3 will come with a one-year subscription of Office 365 Personal, which is a $79 value.

Currently, only the Wi-Fi versions of the Surface 3 available, but LTE-equipped versions will be coming soon soon. Those interested can pick one up via your favorite online e-tailors today.  (Amazon, Microsoft)
