Earlier today Bethesda showed off the Fallout 4 PC recommended specs and they are pretty intensive, which should be a good sign. Let’s run them down, and I can give my opinion of it.

PC Systems Requirements (Requires Internet Connection and Free Steam Account to Activate)

Minimum
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

So, first off, the choice of CPUs seems just a bit confusing, The i5 should be at least 10% better than the Phenom even with the clock disadvantage. Perhaps the game just needs a modern quad core to run properly, Either way those with a Pentium dual core should SERIOUSLY consider upgrading at this point.

8GB of RAM is something most people should have by now, frankly 16GB isn’t much more expensive either.

Finally on the GPU side, the 550 TI is quite a bit worse than the HD 7870, which seems rather odd that they would put them on even ground, as far as we know there is no Gameworks used in this game so this could just be a misrepresentation.

Recommended
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent

As for the i7 4790 vs the FX 9590 I’d bet AMD users on a overclock close to 4.7 GHz should get very acceptable results, anyone on a 6300 or a 8350 shouldn’t run out and pick up a 9590. Also Intel users with Ivy bridge CPUs that are clocked around 4GHz should be totally fine as well.

As for GPUs again the 290X is a bit better than the 780, we’d think unless there is optimization issues that the 290 should be good enough to run it well.

After taking a look at the recommended  and minimum specs, I can say I can’t wait to get benchmarking this game on release, so those of you looking to upgrade your PC for the game, keep an eye on the site after release day, and remember to have a nice day!
