Nvidia today announced their new GeForce GTX 1050 and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti which isn’t much of a surprise since pretty much every detail of the upcoming cards were already leaked previously.
As expected, the GeForce GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti will feature the GP107 Pascal architecture based GPU which is manufactured on Samsung’s 14nm FinFET process. This is significantly different from the rest of the Pascal lineup which is manufactured on TSMC’s 16nm FinFET process. The GeForce GTX 1050 will feature 640 CUDA cores, 2GB of GDDR5 memory, a TDP of 75W and will start at $109. The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti will feature 768 CUDA cores, 4GB of GDDR5 memory, a TDP of 75W and will start at $139. I say starting since Nvidia will not be launching a reference version of these cards so every graphics card here will be a custom design from one of Nvidia’s AIBs.
One interesting thing to note is that these cards are all rated for 75W TDP and can run through just the PCIe bus alone however, it has been noted that the better performance may be available for cards with power from external connectors as it’ll allow the GPU to reach higher clockspeeds. By default, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti will be clocked at 1392MHz with a 1.3x boost clock and the GeForce GTX 1050 will be clocked at 1455MHz with a 1.3x boost clock.
Nvidia did provide some benchmarks for the GeForce GTX 1050 for some popular games running at 1080p. Using a Core i5-4670K, GTA 5 running at medium settings will get 62FPS, Gears of War 4 at medium settings will get 65FPS, Overwatch on max settings will get 63FPS, DOTA 2 at max settings will get 68FPS, and World of Warcraft at max settings will get 68FPS. No mention of what type of performance we can expect for the GTX 1050 Ti, but with about 20% more CUDA cores, it should run ~20% better given equal clock speeds. Keep in mind however, that the GTX 1050 is clocked slightly faster out of the box. At higher resolutions (144p+) where memory plays a larger role, the GTX 1050 Ti should be significantly faster. Of course, there are previously leaked benchmarks available for those interested.
Nvidia AIB partners are expected to begin shipping the GTX 1050 Ti starting October 25 and the GTX 1050 will begin shipping before November 8.
