OCZ recently announced a new firmware update for their Octane line of SSDs that promises to bolster the performance of their Indilinx infused drives.
The new firmware update is expected to double the random write IOPS performance, mostly with 4k write performance. While updating this firmware might not actually give end users a noticeable improvement in day to day use, this does show the benefits of OCZ developing their own in house memory controller. OCZ is now able to release their own firmware updates for their drives rather than rely on outside companies such as SandForce, which should translate into lower costs and more timely firmware updates.
