Ever since hard drive prices skyrocketed after the massive flooding in Thailand, SSDs have become all the rage in the consumer storage market with everyone trying to get in on a piece of the action.
With this as well as many other drivers of growth in the SSD industry, many small unknown companies have entered into the SSD market with their own offerings; however, according to a recent report by DigiTimes, larger SSD manufacturers such as Kingston Technology, Intel, OCZ, and Crucial will be cutting prices on their SSDs in order to weed out smaller SSD manufacturers who produce “…inferior products that might disrupt development of the market”.
Taking a look at current SSD pricing on Amazon, it seems like these major SSD manufacturers are already well on their way with price cuts, with the ever popular Crucial m4 128GB with Data Transfer Kit cut to $139.99, the OCZ Vertex 3 120GB cut to $139.99, and the Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB cut to $139.99 as well.
Power play by large SSD manufacturers to gain better control of the market or genuine interest by these companies to inspire consumer confidence in SSD technology? Drop your thoughts below.
