Google Home, Google’s new home assistant will be $99 starting now for a limited time in celebration of Black Friday.
For those unfamiliar with Google Home, it’s Google’s “voice-activated speaker powered by Google Assistant”, similar to Amazon’s Echo home assistant. It accepts voice command from the user and feed you the relevant information, just like a real assistant.
The simple, smooth shell is home for a speaker, signal processor, and a touchscreen. Activating the far-field voice recognition mic is as easy as saying “OK Google”. If you have a huge house, multiple Google Homes can be wirelessly linked together to work in unison. The touchscreen at the top provides some basic power controls, and a dedicated mute button pauses the microphone when you don’t want to be heard.
So what can you actually do with it? Well, the Google Home can do everything from starting a playlist in your Spotify account or provide real-time updates on the weather, sports, news, etc. It can also link up with your Google Account to remind you about upcoming events pinned in your calendar, update traffic information, and much, much more. Of course, it’s going to get smarter as Google continues to update the system, so maybe one day it’ll know what you want before you even ask.
The Google Home currently retails in 7 different base colors to match your interior decor. Color options include black, white, orange, teal, purple, gold, and grey, all of which are interchangeable.
Those interested can pickup a Google Home on the Google Home site here. Google Home can also be purchased at Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and other retailers for the promotional pricing as well.
